My Prior Wine Experience

I've always been interested in learning more about wine, but unfortunately my experiences with it have not stemmed much further than a couple glasses from my parent's stash or the occasional cheap bottle from Kroger. I do not drink wine very frequently, but when I do I enjoy it when relaxing with friends or paired with dinner. I've always loved the taste of the sweeter wines, and would love to expand my wine knowledge but haven't known where to begin!

Other than casually drinking wine with family and friends, I've been exposed to an in-home wine cellar owned by a family friend. Aside from admiring the elegant golden door and cool interior, I do not know much about the point of owning a personal, indoor wine cellar. I hope to gain knowledge on the proper storing and serving methods of wine and how the level of maturation affects different varieties. 

I'm excited to learn more the different varieties of wine and how it is used by different cultures. Overall, I would like to be able to fine-tune my specific taste in wine and be able to understand what a server at a restaurant means when describing a wine.
